IT ALL BEGINS WITH AWARENESS

What is occurring and why?

Are you even aware of what you are doing and why, or are you behaving / reacting from a very base / habitual level?

Being able to hit the pause button long enough to observe like an unbiased third party. This perspective allows you to see from different angles and gives important feedback as to the what and the why of the moment.

The simplest way to develop awareness is through focused breathing exercise. You simply pick a point where you feel the breath the most and place your attention there. You feel the breath come in, transition to exhale, exhale, and transition to inhale. The breath forms an endless cycle. Breath is an excellent teacher. You just play follow the leader. Then as will naturally occur, you will lose focus on the breath and wander off to some other thought, feeling, emotion. Realizing that you are no longer focused on the breath is the point.

(Congratulations on a job well done!)

You then just release whatever had your attention and return to the breath.

Simple. You have done your first meditation and taken steps to strengthen the skill of awareness that will be applied to every aspect of your life.
